Finishing up the 30 Days …

I actually took these photos over a week ago and forgot that I needed to post them. These are the last three days of our 30 Days of Thankful album.

I absolutely loved this project! I really like that we were true to us and didn’t post all the touchy/feel good stuff that you are “supposed” to be thankful for. Well, there was some of that, but most of it was everyday stuff that we were actually thankful for like new books or things that made my husband’s work life easier … and Chuy’s creamy jalapeno. Seriously, anyone that lives near Chuy’s should have that on their list 🙂

We will be doing this again next year. I am debating doing every other year digital and paper so you can see more of a difference in handwriting (especially for the girls). Even if I do it digital next year, I will still have everyone take turns choosing topics. Both girls do really well with the computer (and Natalie has made several Shutterfly digital scrapbooks on her own) so that may be fun for them. I am also thinking of putting two years together per album. I used a 6×6 We R Memory Keepers album in green and it didn’t come close to filling it, so in the interest of saving money/not wasting, they will probably have 2 years per album. I always fill my albums to just before the bursting point, so it only makes sense 🙂

So, thank you Cathy Z for coming up with this project and doing the hard work of making the layout!

I should be back again tomorrow with week 49 of our Project Life album …

30 Days of Thankful-Big Catch Up

So, I did not get to post/link up every Friday like I had intended, but when you can’t print photos at home, you can’t always meet a “deadline”. So, here we go …

I am picking up a photo order today that will have the final 3 days in it and will try to get it posted tomorrow, along with a photo of how I decorated the album. If you made it thru this photo-heavy post, then thank you for looking. I will link this up to Cathy Z’s blog, even though I am a few days late.

Thanks for looking! I would love to read any comments you have and can’t wait to check out everyone else’s that linked up.

Thirty Days of Thankful … Share A Page Friday

Let me start off with day three now that the journaling is on it (originally posted just the photo on the page)

journaling by Natalie-age 9

Day 4:

journaling by Sydney-age 6

For those of you unfamiliar with phonetic/1st grade writing, hers says “learning karate at dad’s work” – which means she watched “Kickin It” on the Disney channel on Sunday while my husband worked and then decided to try out some “karate”moves in the open space:)

Day 5:

written by me – sentiment from both girls and myself

Day 6:

written by me

Day 7:

also written by me-photo chosen by Monkey

Day 8:

journaling by Natalie

Some days our choices are directly affected by the days’ events, others it’s just something we are generally thankful for (like day 6 about our furry kids). Same thing applies to photos- some are taken to go with that day’s journaling and others are pulled from the recent past (again, the dogs and also the photo of my husband and I). I’m enjoying this project for the same reasons I like doing Project Life. It’s a look into our *real* life and where we are right now. When I decided to do this, I wanted it to be realistic and not write about what we are “supposed to” be thankful for (my family, a roof over our heads and puppies and rainbows and…). Don’t get me wrong, those are all great things and we are thankful for them, but I want this to be a reflection of what we are really like:) And sometimes that involves made up karate moves and homework in the backyard!

Getting started …

(Look, I even did a background and used that little stand I never have a use for)

Well, yesterday we finally printed out all of the pages to do this album. I don’t print photos at home, so this is not going to be a project that I am up to date on, but I will stay as close to current as I can. Day one honors went to my husband. He called me to tell me he finally did it – he had lost more than 40 pounds (a goal of his) and wanted to celebrate at his favorite place to eat out:

yep, that his own handwriting!

I took day two … and it might have been a little bit of “cheating” because I was actually talking about something to come, but Fridays for us are so crazy/busy so that was the best I could do. I thought I’d make up for that fact with a cute photo. It’s kind of dark and hard to see, but all four of us piled into my/my husband’s bed and pretended to be asleep:

For day three I have the photo printed out, but no journaling. Our nine year old (Natalie) did this day but hasn’t actually sat down to do the writing (she chose books). I’m hoping she’ll get to it after school day. I’ll update it once the words are on the page:

the book order she brought home Friday

I’m linking up on Cathy Z’s page a few days late and will link up again this Friday. Looking forward to checking out what everyone has done!

30 Days of Thankful

I recently saw a project for this month on Cathy Z’s blog and decided to do it. I really like the idea of stopping to think of all the things in our life we should be grateful for. About a week or soo ago I finished up the newest Junie B. Jones book “Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten…”. In the book, the main character’s class makes a list of things they are thankful for … in a realistic way for kids (toilet paper, chips, pets, etc.) and my girls loved it. Telling what they are thankful for that day is also a daily routine in my youngest daughter’s class. Since it has become a regular habit for us at home now, this seems like a great way to record it. I will get our first couple of pages posted here in the next day or so. I will start linking up on Cathy Z’s blog on Fridays. You should check it out!
