sharing my creativity, one project at a time

Project Life (week 47)

My previous week’s layout was crazy busy and full of photos … this week’s layout is very simple and quite the opposite.

This week was Thanksgiving Break from school for both of our girls. Sometimes I forget that actually writing down the “obvious” details will help later because I may not remember that was the week they had off of school. I used to have the same problem when I wrote in my younger years. I had the image in my head and forgot that the reader didn’t have the same image – I needed to state what I thought were “obvious” details 🙂

In looking at other layouts on various blogs, I see people using Instagram photos and having a lot of white space around them. That is not my usual style, but I wanted to challenge myself to try it. I probably should’ve waited and used a pocket page with 4×6’s instead of 4×4’s, but hey, that’s how we learn, right? (By trying) Monday I used my phone to take a couple of photos on our walk (let me preface this by saying the camera on my phone is not very good at all). I used those photos as my inspiration for the week/trying a different style.

To help continue the white space, I added my list from Thursday with all the food we were having/how long it needed to cook and at what temp.

A couple years ago, we all 4 were feeling horrible (and one after hours clinic visit later realized 2 had strep) so we stayed home and did a simple Thanksgiving meal just the four of us. The girls really liked being able to help cook and decorate the table, so the following year we stayed home again. This year was no different. We all contribute to the food/cooking and even decided what to eat that day.

Thursday morning we walked to the park (with our dogs, too) and hung out for a bit. We tried for a family photo with all of us (four legged children included) and the best we could get was this photo, which is missing one dog and only has the top half of my 9yr old’s head. What made my husband and I laugh even more is that the one in the front that looks like a pissed off teenage boy? Yeah, that’s our moody *six* year old daughter 🙂

flip up the park photo and there is our dinner picture and then my youngest and I reading all the fall books before we change them out for the winter books

Last but not least, Monkey(my husband) is an off-ice official for the local AHL hockey team. Recently he’s gotten to do the penalty box instead of keeping track of stats. This past Friday was the first time the girls and I got a chance to be at the game and see him. I kept the camera out and every penalty called I kept an eye on the big screen above the ice to get his picture. It was funny because he knew I was doing it and smirked at one point while he was on the screen. He said he knew I was watching and he was trying not to smile 🙂

I'm a mom to 2 girls and 2 dogs. My husband and I have been together for over 17 years (married for 12 of them). I hate saying that I'm a "stay at home" mom, because I'm really not. I spend most of my time at my daughters' elementary school - volunteering, tutoring and (my favorite) scrapbooking with several different classes. I like photography, scrapbooking and general crafty stuff.

  1. Cute layout! Love all the pink and the 4×4 page. I really need to try that one week!

  2. I really like the use of all the red/pink papers, it really helps to tie it all together.

P.S. super jealous of your awesome handwriting! My handwriting looks like a little kids writing!

    • I practiced my handwriting a lot – had teachers give me a hard time in elementary school, so I worked at it. Plus there may be a bit of OCD in me that says it needs to look pretty so it doesn’t turn anyone off to the pages 🙂

  3. That sounds like such a fun week! I like the low-key Thanksgiving tradition; that’s great that your kids get to be so involved.

  4. Great layout. I love the family shot at the park, even if it didn’t quite fit everyone. It’s a really fun shot.

  5. I love the three by three page!! So clever. And even the idea of including a grocery list, something so everyday and often overlooked by me!! Will have to include one of these weeks…love your fun layout!

  6. Love the 4×4 page! They look like old school slides!
